Link Popularity and Page Rank
The importance of a web page, or Link Popularity, is rated by Google using a certain algorithm that's based on the quality and the quantity of links that point to your site. Google assigns a higher Page Rank (PR) to a site that has more and high quality incoming text links .
Link Popularity is not just about getting a lot of incoming links. The themes of sites that link back to you have a major say in how Google ranks your page. These sites should be relevant to the theme of your web page. Moreover, if the page that contains your link text has a higher page rank and has less number of outgoing link texts on that page, the more points you gain. The more "relevant" the theme on the "pointing" website, the better Page Rank you get. This whole process of "partnering" with other sites to point to yours is called Link Building or Link Popularity or Link Building campaign. Having a higher page rank helps a site rank better in natural or free search engines.
There are various techniques and procedures one can follow to achieve "good" external links to help you increase your Google Page Rank. A website can have links pointing to them by getting simple links from Directories or obtaining reciprocal links from partner sites or even by posting links on forums.
Some of major tasks involved in link popularity campaigns are:
- Deciding on the theme of partner websites. Identifying Directories to submit to.
- Collecting partner email addresses to mailing text link ads to.
- Creating mailing strategies (personalized emails and the mail content with the text link ad ).
- Managing the mail campaigns.
- Reciprocating and uploading the text link ads.
Step by step procedure for setting up text links
- Simple link text ads are more like directory submissions. Since links are a measure of the quality also (and not just quantity) it is very important that links are placed in the right categories in the directory.
- Study the "Website importance Checker" for Google and Alexa and analyze information provided by the Inbound, Traffic Rank and Reach Rank.
- Identify links to competitor sites. Obtain links to pages linked by competitors based on their link popularity (making sure these sites are relevant).
- Compile a database of relevant sites. Mail webmasters of these sites for reciprocal links. Try and link to those sites that have a higher page rank. Use appropriate and varying link text ads relevant to your theme when requesting links.
- Determine forums that are relevant to the site's theme. Research and write content to post to these forums and paste text links pointing to the target website.
The quality of incoming links is the key: A quality link is a link from a page having strong link popularity, i.e. good Page Rank.
